ASUS G51J-A1 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop (Blue)

Product Description

The ASUS G51J is one of the newest notebooks from the Republic of Gaming(ROG) Notebook line. Powered by Intel’s i7-720QM Core i7 processor and a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M graphics card, the ASUS G51 offers users a completely new class of physical gaming interaction for a more realistic and dynamic experience. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M also features 1GB GDDR3 VRAM, which performs significantly better than the standard DDR2 video memory. With a 3DMark score of 10,000+ the performance of the ASUS G51 is a leap from the other 15-Inch mainstream notebooks that produce scores ranging from 2000 to 3000. The G51 also supports 3D gaming surround audio in the form of EAX Advanced HD 4.0 audio technology. This technology detects in-game environments and actions to provide corresponding 3D sound effects. It can provide up to an additional 64 sound effects from the sound library, producing ultra-realistic spatial effects in more than 300 supported games. Equipped with an illuminating chiclet keyboard, the G51J enables gamers to control the brightness of the keyboard to cater to their needs. This provides gamers with an added advantage over their opponents, and allows them to continue to dominate even in the dark, like that of LAN party environments. The G51J also features Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit Operating System. ASUS notebooks come with ASUS’ 360 service program that includes a 2 year global warranty, one month zero bright dot guaranty, free two-way shipping and twenty-four hour tech support seven days a week. Plus it comes with a FREE One Year Accidental Damage Warranty protecting the notebook from drops, fire, spills and surges. The package contains 2 year warranty card, notebook, gaming backpack, and gaming mouse.

4Love this machine....
By Jose H. Mariscal
I have been waiting for the i7 core laptops to release and here it is. I originally had a dell XPS 16 on order forever and a day (32 days to be exact) and they delayed it AGAIN, so I looked elsewhere. Amazon had this one in stock and got it for next day shipping for $40! And saved a ton off the dell version. As for the laptop itself, it is a great machine. It boots very fast, does not run hot (considering equipment). The screen is beautiful and the keyboard has a nice feel to it. What it used to take my Core 2 Duo desktop 12 hours to do, this does in 4 (compressing and archiving over 100gb of photos in a .rar)! I have tried to tax the crap out of it and can never get the processors to 100%. Gaming will fix that.I am not a huge gamer, but wanted a powerful machine for a lot of photo \ movie stuff and also play the occasional game (COD MW2). Also, as a graduate student, I often hook up external monitors and use Dragon NS 10.1 and it has absolutely no issues with it. This is way overkill, but a sweet machine nonetheless.Pros- built in Blue-tooth, sweet wireless card, cooling seem adequate. Core i7!Some minor annoyances- Lights on external lid can not be shut off.One more note- Amazon's write up states only 4gb, but it can actually go to 8gb according to ASUS and a lot of 'boutique' sites.Reasons for not getting four stars:Very low batt. life- Gaming laptop, so take that for what it is worthNo fingerprint reader (comes with facial recognition, but that can be beat with a photo)Dual drives but no RAID?!??

5Great gaming laptop
By R. Baker
A very excellent gaming laptop for the money. Sure, it's not as fast as a dedicated desktop gaming rig, but for a portable one it's hard to beat. My only complaint would be the LCD is somewhat washed out which appears to be from the LED's in the top of the lid. Notice when the rig is asleep and the screen raised, one can see bleedthrough from the blinking LED in logo. Not a big deal, but if I had one complaint, that would be it. Also, much to my surprise this thing stays pretty cool to the touch. I expected it to get extremely hot, but it doesn't. The air coming out of the left side is very hot, but to touch the laptop remains cool. You can actually play games on this for hours without baking your hands and face off.Pros:* Great performance for the price* ASUS provides an awesome warranty and accidental protection for this, so you can take it to a lan-party and not worry* Plays Dragon Age, Torchlight, Empire Total War, LFD1, Warhammer: DOW2, OFP2: Dragon Rising, MSFlight X, Demigod, all extremely well at native res* World of Warcraft runs beautifully at native res!* Keyboard functions well and has adjustable illumination* Relatively quiet for a gaming laptop* i7 processor is blazingly fast* HDMI and VGA output means this can be used to game on a TV (keep lid open!)* Included mouse and bag are both excellent and high quality* Totally reliable, no crashes even after hours of playingCons:* The LED lights in the lid can bleed through into the LCD* ARMA2 runs very poorly* 260M graphics card slightly underclocked on this model* Cannot be used to game on an external monitor with lid closed (not really unexpected though)

5Awesome Machine
By P. M. Loper
Pros:-i7 mobile processor-Sturdy Construction-Beautiful Display-Backlit Keyboard with a num pad and superb feel.-Great Graphics (Full 1920x1080)-Solid Webcam-Free Accessories (Bag and Gaming Mouse)Cons:-Battery Life (Not really that bad considering the amount of horsepower in this machine.)-Another review mentioned the RAM being upgradable to 8GB but I'm not seeing that on ASUS' website:[...]-Does come with ASUS' bloatware but some of it is actually useful unlike every other laptop I've ever owned.I was in the market for a new laptop that I could take with me to and from work. This was the only machine I could find that had the spec set I was looking for.I don't do much gaming on my PC. I mostly use it for work: multimedia editing/production. In the short time that I've had this machine it has blown me away with its performance. Video previews render out very quickly for a laptop. Captures also perform admirably. Disk burning and ripping is fast and flawless.I would recommend this machine very highly to anyone looking for a portable multimedia editing station. Out of the Box Windows Experience Index: Processor: 7.0 Memory: 7.3 Graphics: 6.7 Gaming Graphics: 6.7 HDD: 5.9

5Speed Demon
By K. Young
I've owned a Lenovo T43, T60p, X61T, X200T and now the X220. Lenovo makes excellent machines.Pros: Thinkpad Build Quality, Keyboard, HD IPS display, Battery life, Docking station, All day battery sliceCons: Price for a tricked out modelI purchased the i7 model and then added an after market Intel OEM 300 GB SSD. This thing flys. Windows Experience Index is a 6 due to graphics but processor, memory and hard disk (SSD) all score in the mid-7's. I had heard great things about the IPS display and without a doubt, this is the best computer screen I have ever had. The resolution could be higher but with my vision it is certainly acceptable. The viewing angles are fantastic and the screen is bright. As the previous reviewer mentioned, the X220 has a 7 mm drive rather than the standard 9.5 mm. Intel's 320 series SSD's with models ending in 301 are 7 mm high and come in sizes up to 600 GB. I used Acronis to clone the hard disk to the SSD, swapped the drives and was up and running in about 2 hours, 1.95 hours of that for the cloning process.I was torn between buying this, a MacBook Air or the Lenovo X1. The other two may look better but in terms of pure performance, tremendous battery life and the IPS Display the X220 wins out IMO. Build quality is fantastic. It may look like the X200 or X201 that came before it but it is a proven succesful design with plenty of power under the hood. I have absolutely no regrets with this purchase, the X220 is a great machine.

5Hard Drive Size Issue!!!
By DFWScout
I purchased my X220 from an individual locally.I think it is necessary to post this as a warning.I really like this laptop. The performace is amazing.BIG ISSUE:The hard drive slot height is 7mm. The standard is 9.5mm.Do not expect to buy a standard 2.5" laptop drive (spindle or SSD) and expect it to fit. I usually research before purchasing anything. My bad, didn't even think it would have this height issue.I think Toshiba makes an HG3 series SSD (7mm height) that might just work. Does anyone know of where this can be purchased? Please be aware of this.

4Better touchpad would give it 5 stars
By Magnus Gille
I like this notebook. It is really well built and a great business notebook with docking and performance. The power to weight ratio is really there and it is a breeze to travel with especially since it has great battery life. However I really do not like the touch pad. No matter how much I try I am not friends with it and it really baffles me that Lenovo put it on there. To me it takes so much value out of the laptop as I make erroneous clicks, scroll by mistake etc.

1UPDATE: BUYER BEWARE
By K J
Lightweight, thin, and good battery life. Gets about 6 hours with brightness down and on power saver. Other than that, does everything I need.UPDATE: Be careful with Acer and SSD's. Mine just failed, with no warning signs. Make sure you have your data backed up at all times. No telling when it will break down. I've read about others having a problem with the SSD from Acer as well. Luckily Amazon took it back for a refund.

5Great value, great performance, average build quality
By cga
I bought this somewhere else (BH) a week ago, for a better price. For its spec, it was a huge value purchase. And many vendors got its integrated graphics wrong. It is Intel 4000 that came along with Ivy bridge.Pros:PriceCPUSSDAmazing boot timeWeighted same as MacAirGood lookingWas worried about battery life. Now it seemed just fine. I don't use it for videos, just schoolwork and browsing the web, somewhere under 5 hoursTouchpad felt somewhat loose, not sure if it is common, but this is a conSlightly thicker than other ultrabooks, but not noticeableViewing angle is a con, but not big dealThere was no overheating issue.. unless tapping the HD 4000 which I never did?Overall, its was a value performance book

4Great Laptop and value but beware...
By Jorge E. Roman
I don't usually write reviews in Amazon but seeing how this is a decently expensive buy and has a small amount of reviews I feel it is my duty to write a review for it. My 6 year old laptop was already dying on me by the time I decided I was gonna buy a new computer, so I did PLENTY of research throughout Amazon and other online sites such as Best Buy and found the U36-AS71 to be the best possible buy for the price.Unless you're reading this at a much later date than mid year-ish 2012 I can assure you this will be the best value. Many other similarly priced thin and sexy looking laptops will have its drawback that will pull you towards a laptop such as this. These drawbacks could be things such as having an i3 processor, an Intel HD graphics card over an actually useful one, or a small hard drive. The Asus u36-as71 comes packd with an i7 processor [though not a quadcore or newer chipset but a sandybridge], an nVidia Geforce 610m graphics card with Optimus technology [aka it switches from the nVidia to the Intel HD graphics card when the computer doesn't require it] and a decently sized hard drive.I've had about a week with the computer and while I am loving it I am pretty biased since my previous laptop is a VERY old Dell Latitude d620 that crashes on every chance it gets. Like any other laptop of this great value it has pros and cons and it'll depend on the reader whether the cons are enough to warrant looking another way.Pros:- i7 processor and nvidia graphics card for this price means the laptop is pretty fast in everything it does and can play some games decently. Word of warning if you're looking for a top of the line gaming laptop you might look another way as this graphics card is useful to play most games in a medium or so setting, with upcoming games in a low/medium setting.-The look and size of the laptop is incredibly sexy. If you're searching for a small and thin laptop that packs a punch then look no further since from the time of writing this review this is going to be the best of both worlds. It is extremely light weight too.-It's an Asus so it comes with SOME useful software [more on this in the cons] that can be useful later on.Cons:-And this is the biggest con by far the heat. Another review mentions how hot this computer gets and I thought they were exaggerating but it is true to a certain extent. The laptop itself will be at a comfortable temperature for daily life tasks such as surfing the web, writing papers or even streaming videos. If that's all you ever do then hey you can pretty much ignore this con. But if you're planning on playing games then BEWARE. A lot [if not most] Asus laptops have the fan suction vent on the left side of the laptop where the left hand will rest when gaming. It gets to very uncomfortable temperatures when gaming to the point you might be putting your hand in weird positions as to not touch it. The keys can also get hot. I am planning on getting a cooler pad for when I decide to game on this thing but it IS bearable to play games without one, just very uncomfortable.-Some of the Asus bloatware can get pretty annoying so I'd suggest researching online which ones are safe to uninstall.-The speakers. Like most Asus laptops the speakers seem to come out of a cereal box and while you can listen to audio just fine, I would suggest getting some external speakers if you're not planning on connecting this to an HDMI or using headphones when using anything that is made more enjoyable with audio.Problems that MIGHT arise:-The soundcard that arrived with my computer would crackle and pop when I used it for the first 3-4 days. This got very annoying as this was the biggest problem I had with my laptop at the beginning. It might have just been my laptop and it might not happen to you but this was frustrating. It may have been the drivers but I found myself installing and reinstalling different drivers either from the Asus website or the Realtek site and tweaking the output quality of the speakers until I found something that wouldn't crackle as much. Currently it only crackles and pops VERY infrequently to the point you won't notice it for the long run.-Installing the drivers for the 610m might have been the biggest pain of them all. I again found myself searching around for the latest drivers as the nVidia website itself won't recognize the 610m graphics card for some reason. This is a well known problem. The drivers at the time in the Asus website were outdated already, but search enough and you'll find the latest ones.Suggestions:-I'm planning on getting a laptop cooler for when I plan on playing games and USB speakers for better audio quality. These two are common things to need for a laptop of this size. Small laptops, especially Asus, come with mediocre speakers so definitely get this. A cooler on the other hand is a common bought item for people whose laptops can game decently but weren't equipped with a state of the art internal cooling system like many other big gaming laptops.Final thoughts: Even though the list of cons and problems are way bigger than the list of pros, please keep in mind that I am very descriptive about the problems as Asus and Amazon already did a good job describing the pros in the description and the technical specs and people tend to describe the cons more. The pros imho outweigh the cons if you're willing to shed another $100 or so in laptop accesories such as the cooler and the speakers you'll have a pretty decent entertainment laptop in your hands. The power this computer packs in such a small and compact design gives no surprise to the temperatures it can get when at full graphical power. In conclusion ff you're looking for a graphical power laptop or a small notebook with somewhat decent speeds you need to look elsewhere. If you're looking for a hybrid of the two, a jack of both trades master of none, then this is the laptop for you though since it's a hybrid it brings the problems of the two sides [speakers and temperature] so corrections might be made. I am very happy with my purchase and the two mentioned major drawbacks are the only reason it's not a 5/5.

2Heat Heat Heat....Asus what did you do to such an awesome laptop :(
By A. Kollara
Hello,Here is my review for asus u36sg.U36sg is an awesome laptop with a very fast processor and a very sleek and thin body. People who miss the performance in ultrabooks can definitely go ahead with this one as its thickness and weight is comparable to the ultrabooks available in the market. The i7 processor along with the Nvidia gpu makes it a powerful laptop. But there is always a trade-off. ----------"Heat". ------- After 20 -30 mins of average use, the base of the laptop gets heated up to such an extend that you cannot keep it on your lap anymore. For users who need better performance in terms of speed and graphics and are okay with heat and noisy clickpad, this one is meant for you.PROS--------1. Really fast computer.2. Good graphics card 1 gb (not 2gb) nvidia 610m with optimus3. Good chicklet keyboard.4. Nice trackpad (but noisy click buttons)5. Decent screen6. Very light and easy to carry (might be the lightest one with a non ULV i7 processor)7. Amazing battery backup (6.5 to 7 hrs).8. Value for money.CONS--------=1. Heat2. noisy clickpad3. Poor build quality/product finish ( non aligned screen bezel - can find gaps between screen and bezel, low quality keys on keyboard- etc)My only problem with the laptop is the heat. I really wish if this laptop never had heating problems... :( coz its such a gr8 design.A thin and light design will always make it a good one to use it as a lap--top. But this heat problem doesn't qualify it for a 'lap'top. I will explain the heat scenario now. The left half of the laptop is generally cool because the laptop fan is taking care of the temperature of that side. But in the case of right half of the laptop, its always hot. We can hear feeble noise from this side and once it get heated up (say after first 20-30 mins use of the laptop) the heat in this right half will persist there as there is no fan to expel the generated heat. Some hardware located here on the right top of the base is heating up. To be more specific it is the position where the windows serial no is located. If you listen to that area you can hear a feeble noise. To sum up, the right half of the laptop is really hot most of the time... making it a bad laptop.I have owned 3 other laptops before using this. And none of the laptops ever got hot like this (atleast when it was a brand new one). In Asus u36 web page, they say their engineers have designed some new stuff to make it cool, couldn't feel any of those effect in this laptop. Few websites like pcmag.com and tlbhd had mentioned about this heat problem in their review of this laptop. But only found it after purchasing the laptop.Hope this review helps future buyers. Thanks!

5Great Value for a powerful, lightweight, compact notebook
By J. Johnson
Bought this notebook to replace an Asus UL30A which I had for several years and loved (my daughter is now using it). The only drawback of the old notebook was that it lacked the power to do heavy duty video editing using Adobe Premiere. I saw that the U36SG had dual core with hyper threading, double the base clock speed, and an additional turbo mode that adds another 25% or so with turbo mode, and finally 2 GB more memory (option to go to 8GB). Well, let me tell you this small, lightweight notebook is awesome! I am now able to create video/slideshow compositions with no hesitation, even as we travel. No more waiting until we get home. I am getting about 9 hours on battery using the recommended power settings and could probably squeeze out another hour by fine tuning. The best part is that I only paid about $50 more than I did for the older notebook....a great value. I absolutely recommend this notebook for travelers who want a lightweight but powerful do everything personal computer that is very close to the size and weight of an iPad.

5Ultrabook first, tablet second, but a great machine nonetheless!
By A. Celen
== First things first ==My wife has been looking for a laptop to replace her old Vaio SZ (very nice laptop, still lighter than many and lasted her 5 years!). She was a little picky when it comes to aesthetics and didn't like Macbooks, so it took us a while to find a good looking and solid Windows laptop. So we were looking for a laptop that:- is good looking as in the design not being an afterthought but a part of the whole package- has a quality screen with above average resolution (average as in 1366x768, which comes with even some 15" laptops for heaven's sake!)- is light but well built and durable- has less optical drives and more space for battery instead, so that it can last a while (more than 5 hrs would be good)- has a large and smooth track pad (hopefully with not-so-horrible multi-touch support, as I got used to see in even high-end PC hardware)- has a 180 degree tilt-able screen like her old Vaio SZ (not sure why this is a requirement, but I know better not to ask too much at this point)- has enough power to support daily tasks (she is not a gamer, so an i3-5 with integrated graphics should be fine)- has an SSD (best thing happened to laptops since sliced bread with some PB & J: well worth real-world-not-just-benchmark performance gains and more portability)So we finally settled with Yoga. And lo and behold, Yoga ticks all of the boxes above, only coming slightly behind modern Vaio Z in looks (Yoga's processor is good enough, thank you very much), but hey, this is a Lenovo quality Ultrabook slash Tablet that is built for Windows 8 not just compatible, has a *touch screen* and we have $600 left we can use on something else.We bought ours from BestBuy for ~$1000 the week it came out (wasn't on Amazon yet). Ours is the gray version with i5 processor and a 128G SSD. Along with 3 years in-home repair + accidental damage protection for just $220 that I bought from Lenovo directly. Man, that is not even close to what I would have paid for a similar warranty coverage with Dell or HP or most anyone else as far as I know. Now, on to the more specific points:== Pros ==- Very good display! It has an IPS panel (go look it up if you don't know how good that is) with a sharp looking 1600x900 resolution (good enough for a 13") with *very* goodviewing angles (can't get colors to wash up no matter where I look at it). Don't let the resolution frenzy trick you; this is a laptop, not a smartphone, and while Windows 8 apps (Metro apps) are resolution agnostic, regular Windows desktop doesn't play well with high DPI screens unless you like looking at tiny icons all day long (in short hi-res with regular Windows is good when you have a 27" monitor, not so much when you have a 13" laptop)- Touch screen is a lot better than expectedThere was never a moment when the screen missed a touch or couldn't handle multi-finger gestures. It even has these nice little dots or trails that show up where you touch or drag, so you know if it is the screen that is unresponsive or the app (it happens, not all applications respond to touch well, especially gestures). Touch scrolling is even smoother than touchpad scrolling, which is why my wife prefers to move things around by touch instead of using touchpad/keyboard combo.- Nice and sturdy double-hinge designWhen I first saw the Yoga I though "That's a very elegant way to break your screen" but boy was I wrong. Right now the hinges are proving to be stiff enough to hold the screen in any position without being uncomfortable or giving out. Time will tell but right now it seems like job well done, especially compared to the old convertible PC-tablet hinge designs with a swiveling single hinge base.- Solid and thin&light at the same time, just like what an ultrabook supposed to beSo this thing weighs 3.4 lbs and is very thin. Not sure if there is much else to say about this. Just know that it doesn't bend or squeak when you grab it from its corner and hold it in the air (can't say that about many)- An ultrabook with user replaceable parts? Dream come true!Yep, you can replace the memory, SSD or the battery, unlike Macbook Air or 13 Retina (regular MBP 13 is not fair comparison). Oh I almost forgot: Did you know that there is an empty SATA slot that you can use to put in a second SSD? Blew my mind when I learned about it.- Smooth and sensitive large touch-pad, nice keyboard; overall good ergonomicsTouch pad is nice. It is sensitive and has a smooth surface with built-in buttons (anywhere is clickable, but there are still buttons integrated on the bottom). It supports quite a few multi-touch gestures along with Win8 specials like slide-in gestures. It is missing a few gestures (more on that later) but one it support are nicely done. First time I can comfortably use two finger scrolling, pinching etc.Keyboard is good. It could be better, a little firmer keys could have been used but, again, this is a subjective observation and it is better than most. The only thing my wife doesn't like is the layout of some of the keys: placement of the home/end, small right-shift key etc. We'll see if we can get used to that.- Windows 8 is great (though not flawless yet)With all the fuss about Windows 8, let me tell you this: It won't bother you, really. If you like Windows 7, Windows 8 is even better in terms of under the hood performance (faster boot, smoother throughout) along with visible improvements (e.g. the new task manager, file copy system, better multi-monitor support) with only a mostly-aesthetic change that is the new Metro start screen, which you can ignore for most of the time if you *really* hate it (search for Start8 program if you would like to use Windows 8 like a better Windows 7 including the good old start menu). That said, you might even like the new Metro interface since it is *really* a joy to use with a good touch screen (which this one has). How good? We got into a fight over whose turn it is to play the Wordament game last night. Yup, it's good for your love life too!== Cons ==- Trackpad is missing some gestures thanks to LenovoThis is interesting since original Synaptic drivers would allow you to do so much more (three finger flicks, four finger touches, smoother scrolling) but that won't support the tablet mode as well (I tried and had issues when in tablet mode, not being able to use on-screen keyboard etc.) Not a deal breaker but it would be nice if Lenovo supported a little more (especially three finger flicks would be nice).- Windows 8 is not *fully* there yetFirst of all, let me say this is kind of expected and not really MS' fault. Windows is undergoing a huge (and brave) paradigm shift and these things are kind of normal in transitions like these. Also, this is purely subjective; you may not feel the same. Now: The new interface is clean and nice; Everything is smooth and well suitable for touch (mostly Metro parts). However, it just seems/feels like some things could have been done better. Can't put my finger on it though; it's just a feeling I get. Sometimes the integration feels incomplete. Especially when you are dealing with relatively advanced things like picking which updates from MS to download (this involves both Metro settings screen and the classic Control Panel for some reason). Again, nothing serious but something to mention. Also, there are a lot of Metro apps in the store but it is still in its infancy. It will get better but right now (as of Nov '12) it is lacking, and the apps they have on store are mostly beta-ish quality. Android Market in 2008 anyone? Lets say Windows 8 has a lot more incentive for developers since it is going to be on millions of devices very soon.== Meeh ==- It can be a tablet but it is not an actual tablet (iPad/Android) replacementDon't expect to throw away your tablet the minute you get this. It is a little heavy and large to be a tablet. However, it is wonderful for those times you need a screen on your table/counter but you can't bother to use touchpad/keyboard. My wife uses it to read and search for recipes; she can browse through easily just by touch (even in normal Windows apps, not just Metro) and I love this setup when I browse through reddit while eating (via ReddHub app or browser). Oh by the way: Internet Explorer 10 for Metro is great. Not much to complain there. I believe Yoga would best complimented with a 7" tablet for other times.- Battery life is very good but may not be the bestI haven't actually measured it but it doesn't seem to last as long as, say, Macbook Air. It is still good enough for our purposes (which would be anything more than 5 hrs). Though, this is when we are doing a lot of surfing, watching couple of shows on Netflix, some coding etc. It is not bad in any way but if you are looking for something that will last you the whole 7 hr flight while enjoying movies all the way, you might want to look elsewhere.- It doesn't get hot, at all, but fan is on constantly, though not so noticeable or distractiveNot much else to say. It's just that the fan is on most of the time and it is noticeable if you are in a *very* quiet room but even than it is not really bothering us. I just wanted to point it out. On the other hand, it never got hot on us yet, so the cooling performance is good for normal usage (may not be so for gamers, not sure)== Wrap Up ==All in all this is a *very* good ultrabook, a capable laptop and a nice tablet alternative depending on what you use one for. It has a great screen with good colors, good resolution and nicely done touch capability. The keyboard is good the touchpad is better than most PCs (not on par with Macbook's, still) and it is overall very comfortable to use.I would suggest this laptop if you are in the market for a good and capable Windows 8 machine that doesn't need to play latest Crysis in good settings and won't damage your wallet. It seems like Lenovo really does know how to make nice laptops :)(P.S. I'll try to update the review if something comes up or if I have things to add, though don't hesitate to comment and ask questions, I'll try my best)

4Amazing Ultrabook, GreatTablet.
By Okayki
Pros:Touchscreen makes navigating Windows 8 a breezeFairly powerful - You wont be using this as a gaming laptop but I did manage to sneak in a game of Civ 5, and XCom at work.Boots Fast - the boot time is very quick from off to tiles in about 10 seconds.Speakers that work - I don't know wether to credit the ultrabook side of this but probably the best sounding tablet I've played with.Light - For a laptop at least.Cons:Heavy - For a tablet. Not something you'll be holding in your hand as an ereader for long.Sensitive Touchscren - the touchscreen is a bit on the sensitive side I've doubled clicked and tabbed other windows open by accident.Odd portrait mode - because of the resolution if you're reading it in portrait mode it is a bit thin and long. Not 1080p - not a big deal to me but it might be to others.Exposed keyboard as tablet - The keys will be exposed when you use this as a tablet, while they are turned off it is somewhat odd griping this and feeling buttons. No microphone input - Sounds petty but I like the option of having a microphone input.Outside of the finicky touchscreen, the cons are rather minor to me, while I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who is looking to use a tablet most or all of the time, I highly recommend this to anyone looking to pick up an ultrabook and is even slightly interested in having a tablet as well.

5Surprisingly Good for Gaming
By Christopher D. Mcbride
**NOTE: I purchased this in person at a large B&M retailer, (rhymes with Rest Guy) as it was not for sale on Amazon at the time and have also posted my review on their site.**Most reviewers have touched on the great parts of the Yoga 13 but I will reiterate some of them:- Fantastic 1600x900 IPS display. While it is glossy, it works great at ANY angle which is a must for a multi-use device as this one is trying to be.- Hinge is of extremely good quality, as is the rest of the device. It just feels like a premium product.- Keyboard is nicely spaced and offers a very satisfying level of tactile feedback, but FYI, the backspace key, while large, is not full size.- Battery life has been about 7-8 hours for me doing light web browsing. You can get at least 5.5 if you are streaming a lot, and I watched two full length movies on Amazon on one charge.- External controls allow you to power on/off, control volume, and lock screen orientation without having to access the keyboard side of the device, which is very helpful in tablet mode. The power button is slightly recessed, but once you are familiar with where it is, this is not a problem.- The wireless antenna seems to maintain very good signal within my entire 2,000 square foot home, something my previous laptop, (a Sony Vaio TZ) did not do, and it maintains better speeds than my wife's Acer as well.- I have to again echo everyone else's comments on the great versatility of the Yoga. It is perfect for any situation and you will find yourself using it in ways you can only imagine around the house and at the office. It is absolutely great for propping up in bed on my stomach/chest with the keyboard as the base and just using the touchscreen. I used to have my iPad for bed surfing before I went to sleep, but the Yoga is so much better as you don't have to hold it, and the screen is bigger making it better for watching movies in bed.The ONE "not so good" thing I have to say about the Yoga is the trackpad is finnicky. It is a single slab with two clicky spots on the bottom representing left and right buttons on a mouse. Unfortunately, these locations on the trackpad are also used for touch, so if you are trying to click text or a box on the screen, you have to be VERY quick and precise otherwise it does not register as a click and will rather just move the cursor a slight bit. This can become infuriating after the third or fourth attempted click, and I find myself giving up and just using the touchscreen as it is far more accurate. Hopefully this will be fixed with a driver update in the future. I just don't know why almost all companies have decided to go away from dedicated mouse buttons. *Sigh*All of those things covered, I did not buy this intending to do ANY gaming on it. I want to include some details on how it is for gaming as I feel like there may be others out there that may be deciding between this and a less portable, but more powerful device. The Yoga is essentially an ultrabook and I have not read anywhere that anyone has attempted to do any gaming on it, but I have a Steam account and do some gaming on my custom built desktop gaming PC. On a whim, I downloaded Steam to the Yoga and a few games to see if they would run at all, and if so, how they would look/play. I am actually SHOCKED at how playable, and actually, how GOOD they look on the Yoga's 1600x900 display.Let's be clear here, though, this is not a gaming powerhouse. But I can play Amnesia: The Dark Descent in native resolution with all settings on at least medium, with some on high. I loaded up Dear Esther and it too plays at native 1600x900 resolution on medium/high settings maintaining around 35-50 fps. The SSD helps out I am sure, and even pushing it to the max, the Yoga doesn't get uncomfortably hot. The left side of the keyboard does get pretty warm if you are going to be using the built in keyboard for WASD controls. I have been plugging in my Xbox 360 controller and using that, but did play about 3 hours of Amnesia using the keyboard and a wireless mouse and it worked great.I am sure extremely new games will have to be played on lower settings, but rest assured, if you just want to do some light gaming on the go, the Yoga will satisfy your needs. I get about 3 hours of battery life when gaming, which is generally very good on any gaming laptop, let alone one that is not meant for gaming at all.A side note FYI - the only vent opening is on the back end of the device, basically by the hinge and the speakers are under the keyboard, (and actually sound very good and get very loud). I mention the vents because it is nice that the heat is not dissipated from underneath the device, but if you fold the display so that the keyboard is facing down as a base, the vent will be facing toward you and the speakers will not be as loud.Overall I could not be any happier. I would have given it 5 stars WITHOUT knowing it can do some decent gaming, but since it can it is everything I could ever ask for in a device.I also purchased the official Lenovo sleeve which basically protects the computer while carrying it around. It is not meant to protect it from drops, but does a good job of protecting it if you put it in a bag or carry it with another device/book/note pad. The price is a little steep, but I must say it is worth it. You can also buy other, more traditional ultrabook cases that should also work just fine.Bottom line here is that the Yoga is successfully a tablet AND a laptop. I used to surf on my iPad, and then if there was anything I needed to do special, like go to a flash based site, fill out forms, or input any long lines of text, I would have to put down the iPad and go get my laptop, power it on, navigate to the site I needed to be at, and start all over. Now, with the Yoga, I simply fold the keyboard back out and put it in laptop mode. It truly is the best of both worlds. Highly, highly recommended!
